Two Way Radios for Leisure, Holiday and Activity Centres

Two Way Radios for Leisure, Holiday and Activity Centres

1 The Customer

Haven runs award-winning family holiday parks throughout the UK, each of them on or near the coast in England, Scotland or Wales. Filled with activities and entertainment from dawn to dusk, plus a huge logistical undertaking to run the parks, two way radios are a fundamental part of everyday life for Haven Staff.

In this case study, we came to the assistance of Haven’s North Wales holiday park, Hafan y Môr.

2 The Problem

The team at Hafan y Môr was using an old analogue system with Motorola CP040 hand portable radios.  The main issues were:
reliability due to the age of the radios

  • poor signal around the park
  • interference
  • only one channel available with park coverage, meaning messages could not get through straight away.

3 The Solution

We upgraded the holiday park to a Motorola digital radio system, supplying them with Motorola SL1600 and DP1400 non-display handheld radios. To ensure the radios get good coverage throughout this large site, we also supplied them with a Motorola SLR5500 repeater.  We explain how repeaters work in this article.

4 The Result

By upgrading them from analogue to digital, the interference and poor radio coverage on the previous analogue system were eliminated. The dual-slot technology on the Motorola SLR5000 digital repeater means that security and housekeeping staff now each have their own channel, so calls can go through much faster.

The Motorola DP1400 is the perfect radio for the security team as it is robust, and the slim-line SL1600 has been perfect for the other teams that don’t want to carry a bulky radio around.
