Warner Hotels – Studley Castle
The Client
Studley Castle is a distinctive historic hotel operated by Warner Hotels, providing accommodation, hospitality and leisure facilities within an extensive property.
With multiple departments working across a substantial building, dependable two-way radio communication is essential for coordinating daily hotel operations, maintaining staff efficiency and ensuring teams can communicate quickly throughout the site.

DCS 2 Way Radio was approached to resolve existing communication difficulties and deliver a reliable digital two-way radio systemA Radio System is a complete communication solution comprising two-way radios and, where required, equipment such as repeaters, antennas, base stations, mobile radios and network infrastructure. capable of providing coverageRadio Coverage is the geographical area in which a two-way radio system can provide reliable communication. Coverage depends on the radios, antennas, frequency, terrain, buildings and system infrastructure. throughout the hotel.
The Requirement
Studley Castle was already using Hytera PD405 digital handheld radios, but staff were experiencing unreliable communication in several areas of the property.
During initial site trials, DCS 2 Way Radio identified coverage difficulties that were more significant than those normally encountered at similar locations.
Due to the substantial construction and layout of the castle, radio signals became unreliable from approximately halfway through the building, making it difficult for staff in different departments to maintain consistent communication.
The hotel required a solution that would:
- Eliminate radio coverage blackspots throughout the property.
- Provide reliable communication between departments.
- Improve audio clarity in busy hotel environments.
- Allow multiple teams to share the radio system efficiently.
- Support dependable day-to-day hotel operations.
The Solution
Following the site assessment, DCS 2 Way Radio designed a Hytera digital radio solution to overcome the building's challenging coverage requirements.
The system incorporated a Hytera HR1065 digital repeaterA Repeater receives a two-way radio transmission and retransmits it, usually from an elevated location, to extend the coverage and reliability of a radio communication system., connected to an external rooftop aerial to strengthen and extend radio signals throughout the property.
To improve communication between departments, the system also incorporated Hytera Pseudo Trunk functionality, allowing radio users to share available communication resources more efficiently.
The solution included Hytera HP505 digital handheld radios, featuring AI-based noise cancellationNoise Cancellation is technology used in two-way radios and communication equipment to reduce unwanted background noise and make speech easier to hear, particularly in noisy working environments. to improve voice clarity and reduce background noise in busy working environments.
Together, these components provided a more effective digital radio communication system tailored to the hotel's operational requirements.

The Deployment
DCS 2 Way Radio installed and configured the Hytera digital repeater system, incorporating an external rooftop aerial to improve signal propagation throughout Studley Castle.
The deployment included:
- 1 × Hytera HR1065 Digital Repeater – Extending and strengthening radio coverage across the property.
- External Rooftop Aerial – Improving signal distribution throughout the substantial building.
- Hytera Pseudo Trunk Functionality – Enabling more efficient system access for multiple departments.
- Hytera HP505 Digital Handheld Radios – Providing improved audio performance through AI noise cancellation.
The repeater and rooftop aerial installation successfully addressed the previously identified coverage limitations, delivering reliable communication throughout the hotel.
The Results
The upgraded Hytera digital radio system delivered significant operational improvements for Studley Castle.
